ABOUT

| PERHAPS, IT IS A MATTER OF LIFE, A MATTER OF DEATH, BUT IT REMAINS MOSTLY BETWEEN THE MELANCHOLIA OF THE FLESHES.

YOURS & MINE.|

Born in Switzerland, Lara Fournier has started to develop her passion for dance at an early age. In 2019, she completed her First Class Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours at the Rambert Ballet and Contemporary Dance School (London/UK), where she had the opportunity to work with a diversity of choreographers, amongst Kim Brandstrup and Julie Cunningham.

Involved in Christopher Thomas’ creations since 2018, she had the pleasure to perform ‘Blood Thicker Than Water’ for the Resolution Dance Festival 2019 at The Place (UK). As part of the Young Associates Programme, she also performed ‘To The Ocean Floor’ for Christopher’s main stage production at Sadler’s Wells (UK) the same year.

Genuinely attracted by choreographic experimentations, she had the opportunity to initiate the very beginnings of a movement research, based on the vulnerability of Human Interaction(s). Indeed, her first work ‘Human Interaction’ (2018) has been performed as part of the Design for Dance Festival at Central Saint Martins Theatre (UK). She then worked on a second piece, ‘No Speech for Emotions’, presented at the Lilian Baylis and Anya Linden Theatres (UK) in July 2019. In October 2019, she took part to the ArtsCross Project in Beijing (CN), in collaboration with the University of Middlesex, the Beijing Dance Academy and the University of Taipei, where she danced for choreographers Amir Kolben and Joy Alpuerto Ritter.

Lara choreographed and performed Us, You, Me, Living ? at The Place Resolution Dance Festival 2020 (UK), under the collective Collateral Damage that she co-founded with Llewelyn Lewis, producing a tight collaboration with poet Cindy Fournier and photographer Beatrice Belletti. She has been invited by the Iraqi Bodies Cie (SE) to take part to their creative laboratory based on the Grotesque throughout the rest of 2020.

In 2021, she has been working with Azimuth Arts & Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Gonçalo Cruzinha (DE) as well as with Lee Jung in Creation (AT). In parallel to her freelance performance projects, she has been developing the artistic repertoire of Lacrima Asteria Dance Company (CH) beginning of 2022. The first work of the company Wordless Speech on Skin, Bones & Heart has been premiered at the Florence Dance Festival – Twilight in the round in June 2022. She has been awarded residencies at La Maison du Grütli (CH), Shawbrook (IRL) and Lo Studio (CH) to develop her work the same year. In May 2023, a second creation, For the Heart I Once Had, has been performed at the Fête de la Danse – Neuchâtel (CH).

In February 2024, Lara has graduated with a BA in Philosophy, Psychology & History of Arts, at the University of Neuchâtel, in Switzerland. She then had the opportunity to work with Cameron McMillan on the Oper Frankfurt (DE) new production ‘Partenope’.

For the year to 2025, she will be involved in diverse freelance community projects, notably under the direction of Jane Castree Creative (UK) as well as Compagnie Art & Motion (CH).

Her constant curiosity for reflective exploration still drives her work towards a cognitive alliance of words and movements through different media such as collages, photography, poetry and montages. Lara is opened to a diversity of languages from ballet, modern, contemporary, partnering, improvisation as well as tango, yoga and Pilates. She has also been awarded Certified RYS Yoga Teacher in 2021, using this practice in her physical and mental daily training. Highly interested in any art forms, she has collaborated with a variety of artists and is currently based between Switzerland and London for further cathartic experimentations.
